Types of Reservations
Sugar House has a variety of locally owned businesses ready for you to explore. The former site of Utah's first state prison, Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County jointly acquired the land from the State of Utah in the 1950's following the prison move to the Point of the Mountain. In 1957, the park was established and the city and county proceeded to deed the property, in trust, to the Sugar House Park Authority and continue to maintain a partnership to provide park maintenance. Since the park’s formation in 1950s, Sugar House Park has been the crown jewel of the historic Sugar House area of Salt Lake City.

Rockwood Furniture closed its doors in 1999 and Granite Furniture closed its Sugar House location in 2004, after more than 80 years of operation. Sugar House Prison, the first Utah state prison, was located in Sugar House during the 19th century and early 20th century. Salt Lake County is full of amazing parks, and we finally visited one of the county’s oldest parks this week. Sugar House Park has been around since the old prison was moved in the 1950’s, but it has a new playground and lots of other fun family activities. Equipment must be picked up from the park office on Friday and returned on Monday.
